The last thing you want to worry about as you’re finally pulling into a marina for some rest and relaxation is having your hull scrape against or collide with the dock. Such an incident can cause damage to your vessel, the marina’s docks, or both. Regardless, it’s a headache you certainly don’t want to have to deal with.
Thankfully, Brown & Howard Marina has just invested in an innovative solution to prevent this potential issue, adding to the reasons why you can always count on Brown & Howard for providing the best marina experience in Newport, RI.
Slammer® Marine solves a common problem with an intuitive solution
Boat captains and marina managers no longer need to fear dock collisions – thanks to the work of Jonathan Hough, Founder & Managing Partner of Slammer Marine. After researching where other similar products had fallen short, he created the first boat and dock fender comprised of a waterproof and highly impact resistant, closed-cell foam core, completely enclosed by a premium quality polyurethane-coated fabric; which together slide into Slammer’s proprietary mounting track. The system installs quickly and easily over the side of a dock to prevent any damage if a boat accidentally makes contact.
Hough came up with the idea for his intuitive product after seeing the damage wrought on pleasure craft docked at a Galveston Bay marina after Hurricane Ike struck Texas in 2008. He initially thought of a removable, inflatable system that could be deployed during inclement weather as a safeguard – but ultimately decided marinas might find a more permanent, easily deployed and maintainable solution as a worthy investment.
After a few years of research, development and patenting, the Slammer Integrated Dock Fender was born – and Hough has now found another happy customer in Brown & Howard Marina!
Fenders are sure to provide “exceptional peace of mind” while docking
“People that use our product find that Slammer helps build boat handling confidence and lowers their stress levels for all aboard,” Hough said during a recent call. “As long as you’re not being totally reckless, you’re not going to do any damage to either the dock or the boat. Slammer is passionate about eliminating the terrible things that can happen when ordinary part-time fenders fail and boats slam into docks.”
“Installing these Slammer dock bumpers will provide our guests with exceptional peace of mind, since captains and crew won’t need to worry about deploying their own dock fenders if they don’t want to,” said Charlie Moore, Marina Manager at Brown & Howard Marina. “It just adds another layer of protection – no matter what size boat you own, these will prove effective.”
Installation of the Slammer Marine bumpers takes only minutes and they last for years. This investment in protecting your vessels and our newly-renovated docks – the face of our marina – is just another way to show how seriously we take providing the highest quality marina experience for our guests, and how seriously we take protecting their property.
